Since 1994 Wheelabrator has hosted its Symposium for Environment and Education, involving approximately 13 schools and 130 seventh and eighth grade students.

Each Wheelabrator Technologies facility sponsors a local school to complete an enviromental project. The Wheelabrator Symposium Team members work on their project during the course of the school year and in May each team travels to the national symposium conference where they present their project. This years symposium conference is being held in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida from May 4th to May 7th.

Since 2001 West Deptfords Wheelabrator Team has been sponsored by the Gloucester waste-to-energy facility, located in Westville. The Westville plant has been in operation since 1989.

The theme of West Deptfords project this year is butterfly gardens.

As part of the project, the team members have researched and are building a butterfly garden at the Gloucester Wheelabrator Facility. The brochure and commercial on this page were also put together by the team to help people take their first steps toward constructing butterfly gardens of their own this spring.
