On January 6, 2011, Governor Christie signed the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights. It is a bill that represents changes to the previously enacted anti-bullying legislation in 2002. This bill will go into effect as of September 2011.
In response to this new bill, the District has been aggressively preparing for the changes within the new law. Therefore, beginning in September, every District staff employee, and contracted service employee will have received training in regard to the revisions made within this law. The District will also offer trainings for parents throughout the year. Within each building, staff will work with students in a developmentally appropriate way to teach them about the roles of the target, bystander, and bully as well as appropriate standards and expectations of behavior. Character education and positive behavior support programs will continue to be implemented throughout the District.
In compliance with the Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights, it is important for the community to be aware of some critical contact people. Each building will have an Anti-Bullying Specialist. All of their names and contact information will appear on the individual school web-pages and in the listing below as they are selected.
